Christian enlisted as a private 12 August 1862 at the age of 19. [1]Private Christian Sandel was serving in Company A, 102nd Ohio Infantry, when he was captured at Athens, Georgia, on September 24, 1864. He was transferred from Cahaba Prison, Alabama to Savannah, Georgia, on November 24, 1864 and then to Andersonville. He died while a POW at Andersonville Prison, Macon County, Georgia on December 13, 1864. [2]
