Biography

Paul was born in 1911. He was the son of Herman Joseph Buschman (1877–1956) and Herman's second wife Mary J Meissen (1888–1912). They married about 1906.

In 1925, Paul (age 14) lived in Dubuque, Dubuque County, Iowa, with his father, Herman (age 46) and his stepmother, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Nicholas (age 36), and his half-siblings: William (age 11), John (age 9), Herman (age 7), Donald (age 5), Virginia (age 3), and baby Catherine.

In 1930, Paul (age 20) lodged in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, in the household of English immigrant William Bell (age 62) and his wife Bessie (age 55). Also lodging in the household were: Duncan Campbell (age 47), Elmer L. Huston (age 29), John J. Nugent (age 54), Canadian William John (age 30), George Holt (age 35), William Hart (age 45), Irishman John Tardey (age 69), and Polish immigrant Steve Kuchcenski (age 38). William Bell was a foreman at an automobile manufacturing plant. Duncan Campbell was a realtor. Paul and Elmer were laborers working construction. John Nugent was a hotel waiter. William John was a polisher at an automobile plant. George Holt, William Hart, and John Tardey were laborers at automobile plants. Steve Kuchcenski was a laborer at the Ford plant.
