Biography

National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution
Richard Carlton was a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Richard Leonard Carlton was born on 15 August 1903 in Urbanna, Middlesex County, Virginia, United States. He was the son of Llewellyn Millard Carlton and Lee Hunter Major.[1] His family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended public schools. At Johns Hopkins University, he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. In the 1930 census Richard (age 26), Clerk, was the single son of Llewellyn M Carlton at 2103 North Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland, United States.[2]

Richard married Florence Tyler. In the 1940 census R (age 34), Assistant Manager, was the married head of household in Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland.[3] Richard was an executive of the Continental Group, formerly the Continental Can Company. Richard registered for the draft on 16 February 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.[4] In the 1950 census Richard (age 46), credit manager, was the married head of household in San Francisco, San Francisco, California, United States.[5] He retired to Lancaster County. There he served on the County Planning Commission, served as Director and Treasurer of Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library, a Director and Treasurer of Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, Treasurer of Lancaster County Republican Committee, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, a life member of Historic Christ Church Foundation and a director of Rappahannock-Westminster Canterbury Foundation.

Richard died on 17 October 17 2007.[6] He was buried in Historic Christ Church Burying Ground, Irvington.[7]
