Biography

Delia Ann Chapman was born in 1827 in New York. Her parents were Zina Chapman and Percy (Frizzell) Chapman.

In the 1850 census, Delia (age 23), was enumerated in the household of her father, Zina Chapman, in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York, United States.^[1]

Delia's father, Zina, died on 14 April 1855. Delia's mother was recorded as head of household as "Mrs. Zina Chapman" in the census taken later that year, and Delia's relationship as her child was confirmed.

In the 1855 New York census, Delia [recorded as "Adelia" in this record] (age 28), was enumerated as the child of Mrs. Zina Chapman in Ward 4, Syracuse City, Onondaga, New York, United States.^[2]

Sometime prior to 1860 (probably 1858 or 1859), Delia married William A. Barnes. [source needed]

In the 1860 census, Delia (age 33), was enumerated with her husband, William, and their infant daughter, Estilla, in Cassville, Grant, Wisconsin. A female domestic servant and her child were also present in the household.^[3]

Delia died in 1868, according to the inscription on her gravestone, which she shares with her husband, William. She was laid to rest in the Cassville Cemetery in Cassville, Grant County, Wisconsin.^[4] Her Find-a-Grave memorial has a photo of her gravestone.

Delia's husband, William, married a second time in 1872, and died in 1919, at which time he was laid to rest next to Delia in the Cassville Cemetery.
