Biography

James Ephraim Pray was born on 26 April 1892, in Bernard, Tremont, Hancock, Maine, United States. [1] His father, Franklin Pierce Pray, was 39 and his mother, Annie Maria Thurston, was 37. He married Mary Eliza Wilson on 28 June 1932, in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States. [2] They were the parents of at least 1 son. He lived in Bar Harbor, Hancock, Maine, United States for about 20 years and Norfolk, Norfolk County, Virginia, United States in 1930.

He entered the USN Federal Reserve on 26 April 1917 and was discharged as a BM2 on 23 October 1919.
[3] [4] [5] At some point he went to the Coast Guard during WWII, registration number 1403, and retired a BMC. VA Grave locator records show that he was a BMC in the Coast Guard during WWI.

He died on 1 April 1972, in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, United States, at the age of 79, [6] and was buried in National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, United States.[7]

Research Notes

There is a 1920 census record that shows James was married a first time to Grace (No last name) who was from Florida, her father was born in Florida, her mother in Massachusetts. She was probably married before because she had a 14 year old son named Buckingham Arthur. Also noted that the 1930 census shows him as married, but didn't show any record of Grace.
