Biography

Ignazio was born in 1828 to Calogero Viola, a laborer, and Antonina Santoro ^[1]. In 1850 at age 22, he became engaged to 23-year-old Maria Armato ^[2]. But it appears that the marriage did not occur as scheduled, as the civil record lacks that portion that indicates completion, and there is no church record of the marriage around that date. But it must have happened eventually as they record the birth of a child in 1864.

Ignazio was a gravedigger by occupation ^[3].
