Biography

Maud (often spelled in the more traditional way, Maude) was born 22 Nov 1877[1] in Maryland. She was the daughter of Leonard and Anna (Herring) Howard.[2]

She married Artie Genthner on 11 Oct 1899 at Lynn, MA.[2] The couple had three children during their 24 year marriage.[3]

Maud had taken ill about 1922 and had fought courageously for several years. In early 1924 she entered the Fairfield Sanitorium at Fairfield, ME. for treatment on the same day her young daughter, Betty, passed away.[4] This no doubt weighed heavily on her and, despite fighting the good fight, she passed away on 30 Apr 1924.[1]

Research Notes

One source gives the DOB as 22 Nov 1867.[5] Other sources state "1877"[6] or "Nov 1877"[7] We believe the truth lies half way between the two at 22 Nov 1877.

The DOD is shown as 2 May 1924 at Find a Grave.[6] However, on the same page, they repost the obituary referenced above.[4] it states "The death of this town which occurred on Wednesday morning at the Fairfield Sanitorium..." and carries a dateline of "Guilfrod(sic) 2 May", and was published 5 May 1924 in the Bangor paper. The "Wednesday" immediately previous to both of these dates was 30 Apr 1924. Find a Grave lists the date of the obituary.
