Biography
According to a compiled death record, Reason Alonzo Nelson, the husband of Mary E. Nelson, was born on 25 January 1846 at Mausville (Mossville?), Illinois, the son of George C. Nelson and Charlotte Carnes, died on 8 October 1933 at La Harpe, Hancock County, Illinois and was buried on 10 October 1933 at Terre Haute Village, Henderson County, Illinois.[1] His headstone in Terre Haute Cemetery reported he was born on 26 January 1846 and died on 8 October 1933. The memorial for Reason on Find a Grave reported he was born at Pike County, Illinois, the son of George Cronkite Nelson, but without evidence.[2]
In the will of George C. Nelson he named as an heir his son Reece A. Nelson.[3]
In 1850 Reason was living with his parents and three siblings at Township 4, Pike County, Illinois.[4]
In 1860 Reason was living at Township 8, Henderson County, Illinois with his father George Nessin', his step-mother Elvira Nessin and four siblings[5], and in 1870 he appeared at Township 8 as Reese Nelson, living with his parents and three siblings.[6]
A compiled marriage record reported Reason A. Nelson married Susan R. Ruckman on 29 October 1870 at Davis County, Iowa.[7] Susan Ruckman was living at Bloomfield Township, Davis County in June of 1870.[8]
In 1880 Reason was living at Terre Haute, Henderson County, Illinois with his wife Susan and two children.[9]
In 1900 R.A. Nelson was living at Terre Haute with his wife Susan and three children, and was recorded as born in January of 1846.[10]
In 1904 Susan Nelson died.[11] Reason married his second wife Mary E. (Timberlake) Boston on 22 May 1909 at Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois.[12]
In 1910 R.A. Nelson was living at La Harpe, Hancock County, Illinois with his wife, Mary E. Nelson and was recorded as married 4 years, second marriage.[13]
In 1920 Resin A. Nelson was living at La Harpe with his wife and a servant, Ruth Carnes, who was likely a relative of his mother's.[14]
In 1930 Reese A. Nelson was still living at La Harpe with his wife.[15]
