Laurence was born in 1822. He was the son of Henry Cockburn and Elizabeth Macdowall.
He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy (1831-37).[1]
He emigrated to Australia and became a sheep farmer.
He married an Anne Smith.
He died about 1874.
