He was married to Margaret at the time of his death. She may have been the mother of his children (order uncertain):[1]
John was listed in the 1545 subsidy list for Hammoon, and was taxed £30 for goods.[2]
The will of John Polden, husbandman of Hammoon, Dorset was written 16 February 1545/6 (37 Hen. VIII). He made bequeathments to his daughters Joane Birke, Alys Pickerynge, and Christian, his wife Margaret, and to John Egden, esq. and John Fayner (?) whom he named as overseers. He left the residue to his son Morgan, and named him as executor. He died shortly afterwards, as the will was then probated 25 May 1546.[1]
John's father is likely to have been John Polden of Child Okeford, who died shortly after making his will in 1508, but this attribution cannot be confirmed as yet. If so, then this John probably had a brother Thomas, and an uncle William, mentioned in John senior's will.[3]
The 1557 will of Morgan Polden named his sisters Joane Aphowelle (Apowell?) and Alice Sawcer(?).[4]
