Biography

Harriet Minerva Yount, born on September 1, 1848, in North Carolina, was the daughter of William Azariah Yount and Elizabeth (Thomas) Yount. She spent her early years in Catawba County, North Carolina, as indicated by the 1850 and 1860 censuses, which place her residence near the Flint Rock and Flint Hill post offices, respectively.

Following the Civil War, Harriet married Joseph Nathaniel Yount in North Carolina, embarking on a life journey together. They eventually settled in Monroe, Lincoln County, Missouri, near the Chain of Rocks post office, as recorded in the 1870 census. During this time, Harriet likely supported her husband as he pursued his occupation as a shoemaker.

In 1880, Harriet and Joseph resided in Clear Creek Township, Drew County, Arkansas, where they established their home. Tragically, Joseph passed away in 1889, leaving Harriet a widow. However, she found love again and married John Henry Uptegrove in 1894, still residing in Arkansas at the time.

The turn of the century brought both joy and sorrow to Harriet's life. She welcomed the new century but also faced the loss of her second husband in the same year. By 1900, she resided in Monticello, Drew County, Arkansas, where she likely navigated the challenges of widowhood.

Harriet's life took another turn as she relocated to Sour Lake, Hardin County, Texas, by the 1910 census. She continued to make her home there through the 1920 census, indicating a lasting connection to the area.

On November 16, 1936, Harriet Minerva Yount passed away in Drew County, Arkansas, leaving behind a legacy shaped by her resilience and ability to adapt to life's circumstances. Her final resting place is at Mount Zion Presbyterian Church in Star City, Lincoln County, Arkansas, a testament to her connections to both Texas and Arkansas throughout her life. Harriet's journey exemplifies the strength and determination of a woman who experienced joy, loss, and love in the face of life's challenges.
