Samuel Broadbent was born about 1810 in Connecticut. He learned the art of photography in the daguerreotype era from Samuel Morse in 1840[1] and continued producing portraits with other photographic processes until his death in 1880. He married Catherine Cook in 1841. By 1850, he had moved to Wilmington, Delaware and by 1860, he lived in Philadelphia where he remained for the following 20 years of his life.
