Charles Fitzgerald Gambier Jenyns was born on 13 November 1827 in Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom to Maria Jane Gambier, age 28, and George Jenyns, age 32. He was baptized on 15 November 1827[1] in Holy Trinty Church, Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom. The ceremony was performed by Leonard Jenyns, Offg. Minstr.
He attended King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds before attending Emmanuel College in Cambridge. From 1849 to 1850, he played first-class cricket for Cambridge University Cricket Club, making five appearances. Jenyns has had modest success in his five university matches, scoring 88 runs with a high score of 27. He earned a cricket blue for his performance in The University Match versus Oxford in 1849. He also played one first-class match at Fenner's in 1849 for a joint Cambridge University and Cambridge Town Club team against an All-England Eleven, batting once and was removed without scoring by William Martingell.[2]
Charles entered the Anglican Church after graduating from Cambridge in 1851 when he was consecrated as a deacon at Ely Cathedral. From 1851 to 1853, he was the curate of Melbourn in Cambridgeshire, before being named Reverend there in 1853. He was the Reverend of Melbourn until 1874 when he became the Reverend of Knebworth in Hertfordshire.
Charles married Fanny Alexander Muriel on 9 June 1853[3] in St Peters Church, Brighton, Sussex, England, United Kingdom. He was widowed in 1854.
He married Emily Rose Lytton Bulwer on 9 July 1856[4] in Aylsham, Norfolk, England and they had 6 children together.
In 1861[5] Charles lived in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom with his wife Emily and their children Maude, Roger and Gerald. He was a Vicar at that time. Sarah Lofts, a nurse, Anne Barnes, a cook, Sarah Hall, a housemaid and Mary Dockerill, a nurserymaid also lived with them at that time.
He was an avid beekeeper and published a book on the subject in 1886.
Charles died on 26 January 1888[6] in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom when he was 60 years old. He was buried on 1 February 1888[7] in St Mary's Church, Knebworth, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom.
Probate - The Will of the Reverend Charles Fitzgerald Gambier Jenyns, late of Knebworth Rectory in the County of Hertford, Clerk Rector of Knebworth, who died 26 January 1888 at Knebworth, was proved on 27 June 1888 at the Principal Registry by Rose Emily Lytton Jenyns of Bottisham Hall in the County of Cambridge Widow the Relict the sole Executrix.[8]
