George White was born on the 22 December 1838 in the Village of East Wretham, about 6 miles (10 km) northeast of the Market Town of Thetford, Parish of Wretham, District of Thetford, in Norfolk, England[1]. His baptism took place on the 27 January 1839 at the Parish Church of of St Ethelbert, in the Village of East Wretham, Parish of Wretham, in Norfolk, England[2]. He is the son of Labourer, Henry (Gayford) and Martha (White), who married on the 12 October 1825 at the Parish Church of St. Peter, White Hart Street, in the Market Town of Thetford, just east of Thetford Forest, in the Parish of Thetford, in Norfolk, England. Henry was from the Parish of West Wretham and Martha from St. Peter's Thetford. They were both single and married after the publishing of Banns. The officiating minister was Robert (Ward) and the witnesses were William (Gayford); Ann (White) and Parish Clerk, William (Whistler)[3].
George is found in the Village of East Wretham, Norfolk in 1841, living with parents Henry and Martha; siblings Mary Anne, Henry, Martha, Sarah Anne and Benjamin (Gayford); widowed grandmother, Elizabeth (White); James (Wells); Stephen (Savage) and John (Rule)[4]. He worked as an Errand Boy in 1851, and still resided with parents Henry and Martha; brother Benjamin and Lodgers James (Wells) and Edward (Ollington). They lived in the Mill House, in the Village of East Wretham, Norfolk, England[5]. It is unclear when, and where, he emigrated to Australia, but it is between 1852 and 1870. George married Jessie Kinloch on the 20 February 1871 at the residence of James (Raishack) in the Town of Clunes, near the City of Ballarat, in the Shire of Hepburn, Colony of Victoria, Australia. They were married by Licence by Bible Christian Minister, John Orchard (Coomb) in front of witnesses Susan and James (Raishack). At the time of the marriage, George was 29 years old and worked as a Miner, whereas, Jessie was 21 and worked as a Domestic[6]. Ten (10) children were born to them during their marriage:--

George passed away on the 12 September 1908 at Service Street, in the goldrush Town of Clunes, 36 kilometres north of the City of Ballarat, in the Shire of Hepburn, 139 km (86 mi) from the capital City of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia[16]. His burial took place on the 14 September 1908 in the Cemetery, Cemetery Road, in the Town of Clunes, Colony of Victoria, Australia in the Methodist Portion, Row K. The Inscription on the Headstone reads:--In Loving Memory Of GEORGE WHITE GAYFORD Passed Away Sep. 12th, 1908. Aged 70 Years. ALSO Grandson of Above ERNEST MAITLAND LLOYD Died Dec. 14th, 1915, Aged 2 Years, 8 Mts. "Our Little Bud in Heaven". JESSIE Loved Wife of Above, Died July 14th, 1927, Aged 76 Years. Re-United[17].
