Eleni (Helen) Samiou was the wife of notable Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis.[1]
She was born in Athens in 1903.[2] (1906 according to her gravestone.[3]
She met Nikos in 1924. They began a romantic relationship in 1928, but married in 1945. She helped him with his works, typing drafts and managing his business affairs.[1]
She authored his biography, "Nikos Kazantzakis, the Uncompromising" which was published in French in 1968.[4]
The couple had no children, but she adopted a son, Patroklos Stavrou.
Eleni Samiou Kazantzakis died on 18 Feb 2004. She was buried at Martinego Bastion, Heraklion, Crete, Greece.[3]
