He mustered in to Company "I" of the 44th Indiana Volunteers on 22 November 1861. At that time, he was a resident of Elkhart County.[2]
Private John (DeClute) DiClute was KIlled in Action during The United States Civil War.
He was one of two men in his company killed in action on 6 April 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh and originally buried in the vicinity of the battlefield.[3][4]
He was re-interred in the Shiloh National Cemetery.[5][6][7]
His widow, Mary Jane, applied for a widow's pension on 22 December 1862. (Certificate no. 2299).[8]
