Francis Joseph Jr. was born at the Massachusetts Homeopathic Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1920, the son of Francis and Anna (Betcher) Glassett.[1] He grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts, an only child.[2]
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was aboard the USS Pillsbury DD-227 in the South Java Sea when it was sunk by Japanese Destroyers on March 1, 1942. The Department of the United States Navy declared all on board lost at sea on November 25, 1945. [3] His name is on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. His name is also on the World War II memorial of local men killed during the war, located at Trum Field in Somerville.
