In the 1910 census Elbert (age 2) was the son of Jasper Mathus in Civil District 3, Fentress, Tennessee, United States.[2] Jasper Mathus 24, wife Rosetta Mathus 23, son Elmer Mathus 4, son Elbert Mathus 2.
In the 1920 census Elbert (age 12) was the son of Jasper N Matthews in Civil District 3, Fentress, Tennessee, United States.[3] Jasper N Matthews 36 years, wife Rosetta Matthews 34 years, son Elmer Matthews 14 years, son Elbert Matthews 12 years, daughter Ruba H Matthews 7 years, daughter Glidus D Matthews 3 years 2 months.
In the 1930 census Elbert (age 22) was the married head of household in District 3, Fentress, Tennessee, United States.[4] Elbert Mathews 22, wife Ruby Mathews 19.
Elbert died on July 6, 1930 in Fentress, Tennessee, aged 21. He was buried in Andy Smith Cemetery, Manson, Tennessee.[5][6]
