Biography

James was born in 1753. He was the son of James Briggs and Hannah Barker.^[1]

He married Deborah Clap on 17 May 1781 in Scituate.^[2]

He passed away in 1792.

Probate

James Briggs 3d of Scituate, yeoman died intestate and on 17 December 1792, Thomas B. Briggs of Dighton, and James Briggs, Jr., of Scituate were granted the administration of his estate.^[3]

His inventory was taken on 18 December 1792 in Scituate.^[4]

In 1794, an account of his estate by James Briggs Jr., was recorded which included debts collected, taxes paid, debts paid, clothing and schooling for the children, and administration fees.^[5] In 1795, a second account included the balance of the former account, debts collected, debts paid, legacies paid, and administration fees. ^[6]

In 1796, James Briggs, Jr., of Scituate was appointed guardian of his daughter, Deborah Calp Briggs, who was above the age of 14 years.^[7]

In 1796, a third account of his estate by James Briggs Jr. was recorded which included the balance of the prior account, rent on the real estate, repairs, debts paid, taxes, and administration fees.^[8]

In 1800, an account of his estate by James Briggs Jr. was recorded which included the balance of the last account, debts paid, and administration fees. An account of his deceased daughter's guardianship was recorded also.^[9]
