Biography

Jesse Westmoreland was born about 1754. Please do not add parents from poorly researched books or online trees with no sources to back them up. They are not accurate. They are the product of fantasy or deception.

He was a soldier in Virginia during the Revolutionary War serving in the 2nd Virginia State Regiment for three years and received 100 acres of land in Kentucky (warrant # 2814, 3-24-1784).^[2]

"The Revolutionary Soldier Jesse Westmoreland moved to that part of Overton County, Tennessee, that in 1823 became Fentress County. We found that Jesse Westmoreland, age 80 in 1832, drew a Revolutionary pension in Fentress County, Tennessee: Twentyfourhundred Tennessee Pensioners Revolution And 1812 (R929.3768 ARM)." ^[3]

"The 1830 census of Fentress County lists several Westmoreland families. Henry Westmoreland's family had one man 80-90 and a younger one 30-40. As in the 1850 census Henry turns up to be 53 years old, we believe that the 80-90 years old man in the 1830 census was probably Jesse."^[4]

The date of death of 16 Feb 1835 is from pension records.^[5]

Three of Jesse's male descendants has taken a Y-DNA test which indicates haplogroup I-FT150454 and is in Group 4 of the Westmoreland DNA Project. His haplogroup differs from other Westmoreland lines that he has been mistakenly attached to in the past.
