Biography

Louise Picard dit Gaspard was born on September 10, 1848.^[1]

By 1860, in St. Landry, Louise was living with her mother, uncle, his family and her half-brother, Pierre Lalonde.^[2]

Louise dit Picard Gaspard Halloway died on august 12, 1926 in Castille, Acadia Parish, Louisiana.^[3]

Research Notes

Louise dit Picard Gaspard was not the daughter of Andre Menard but the illegitimate daughter of Louis dit Picard Gaspard and Francoise Celestine Roy. Francoise Roy is in the 1860 St, Landry Parish, Louisiana census with her son, Joseph Dorville Menard, his wife and children. Francoise Roy's children Louise dit Picard Gaspard and Pierre Lalonde are also in the household. I suspect the surname of Menard was used later on to cover up the illegitimacy but Picard was also used in several baptism records of her children with Joseph Olivier Halloway. I am not sure which Louis dit Picard Gaspard was the father of Louise but I suspect it was the one who was the son of Jean Louis dit Picard Gaspard and Scholastique Comeaux that was born in 1808.
Laura Halloway Meche's Louisiana death record has Louise Gaspard as her mother and Joseph Halloway as her father.
The Gaspard family used the dit Picard Gaspard name in many of their records in the SWLA CD by Hebert.
