John was born in 1684. He was the son of William Brown and Elizabeth Rock.
He appears to have been educated at Trinity College Dublin. There is an entry for a John Browne , B.A. 1708, M.A. 1710. No other details provided. [1]
His name on the Diocesan registers appears as John Browne, M.A.

He was collated Prebendary of Tullabracky (Limerick) on 21 February 1727, but resigned in 1733, to become Archdeacon.
He was collated Archdeacon of Limerick on 20 January 1733, but resigned in 1740. He was collated Chancellor of Limerick on 9 June 1740 and installed on 11 June 1740.
John married Anne Vincent, eldest daughter of John Vincent, of Erina, co. Clare, Alderman of Limerick, on 6 August 1717.
