Lance Corporal John Herbert Snitch, United States Marine Corps, age 19, died of injuries received Wednesday, March 15, 1967, in Quang Gnai, Vietnam, during a search and destroy mission. He was a radio operator in the First Marine Division.
On March 16, 1967, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard R. Snitch, 855 Howell Street, were informed by Sergeant Clement Winkler (of the U.S.Marine recruiting office in Lorain, Ohio) of their son's death. It was reported that LCpl Snitch died of wounds received in the premature explosion of a fragmentation grenade.

LCpl Snitch was a 1966 graduate of Brookside High School. He sang in the school choir. A former Boy Scout, he was only one merit badge away from achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. LCpl Snitch was a member of United Church of Christ, Congregational, in Sheffield Lake, Ohio.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps while a senior in high school and left for active duty on June 12, 1966. He would have celebrated his 20th birthday on May 14, 1967.
In his last letter home, dated February 28, 1967, LCpl Snitch wrote that he expected to be transferred to Quang Gnai from Chu Loi by April 1, 1967, his mother reported.
