Biography

Colie was born in Decaturville, Tennessee, on 15 October 1907 (or 1908).^[1][2] He was the son of Cole Austin and Jane Newman.^[3] When he was a small child the family moved to Oklahoma. On 17 May 1928 Colie married Minnie Massey.^[4] The couple had a daughter, Minnie Colleen. During World War II Colie served in the U.S. Army, 1886th Aviation Engineer Battalion.^[5] He died on 13 December 1968 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore Oklahoma.^[6]

• Delayed birth certificate gives birth year 1908. Grave marker and draft registration have 1907. 1910 Census has Colie as 2, which for an October birthday corresponds to 1907. Heritage-577 17:41, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
• There is a news item from 6 July 1931 (at https://www.newspapers.com/image/909011993) announcing the birth of a daughter to Mr. & Mrs. Colie Austin. This is from Holdenville, Oklahoma, which is nearly 300 miles from Pampa, Texas, where Colie and Minnie lived in 1930 and 1935. There is no obvious second Colie Austin in census records, but there is also not a second daughter present in the 1940 Census. Heritage-577 15:42, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
