Biography
Peter (Morgan) Morgan-Westropp was born in Ireland.
Peter Westropp Morgan was born on 16 October 1820. He was the eldest son of Edward Morgan and Maria Amelia Spread[1]. His siblings were Edward Morgan, Susanna Morgan, Eliza Albina Morgan, Richard Morgan, Anna Maria Morgan, Mountiford Morgan and Jonathan Morgan.
He lived at Bridestown House[2], and later at Ballynolan House in County Limerick, once the seat of the Reverend Thomas Westropp, rector of Ardcanny (his great uncle)[3].
On 26 October 1848 he married Mary Anne Middleton (the daughter of William Middleton) at Kilcornan, Rathkeale, County Kerry[4]. Notice of their marriage was printed on page 16 of the British Army Despatch dated 3 November 1848:
On Thursday, at Kilkornan, Peter Westropp Morgan, Ballynolan-house, eldest son of Edward Morgan Esq., of Bridestown, County Cork, to Mary Anne, eldest daughter of the late Lieut.-Col William Middleton, 42nd Royal Highlanders.[5]
Sadly his wife Mary Anne died on 5 September 1849.
His second marriage was to Sarah Eliza Bennett (the daughter of Reverend James Bennett and Jane Westropp) on 3 July 1855 at Fedamore Church, Fedamore, County Limerick[6]. Notice of their marriage was printed on page 8 of the Morning Chronicle dated 9 July 1855:
MARRIED.
On the 3d instant, at Fedamore church, Peter Westropp Morgan, Esq., of Ballynolan House, county Limerick, eldest son of Edward Morgan, Esq., of Bridestown house, county Cork, to Sarah Eliza, daughter of the Rev. James Bennett, Fedamore Glebe.[7]
They had at least two children.
His father Edward Morgan died on 26 July 1876. Peter was one of the Executors of his Will.
He later changed his surname to Morgan-Westropp.
On 31 May 1877 his daughter Mary Wybrants Morgan married George Mitchell (the only son of James D Mitchell) at St. Stephen's Church, Upper Mount Street, Dublin. Sadly she died in 1889 at Algiers, North Africa.
Peter Westropp Morgan-Westropp passed away on 14 July 1895[8]. Notice of his death was printed on page 1 of the Cork Constitution dated 24 July 1895:
DEATHS.
MORGAN-WESTROPP—At Ballynolan House, county Limerick, on the 14th July, Peter Westropp Morgan-Westropp, eldest son of the late Edward Morgan, Esq, J.P., of Bridestown House, county Cork, grandson of the late Richard Spread, Esq, J.P. of Ballycanon and Springfield, county Cork, and grandnephew of the late Rev Thomas Westropp, of Ballynolan. Much regretted by all who knew him.[9]
