Biography

William Anderson Arnold, known as Anderson, was born in about 1793, the son of John William and Elizabeth (Malton) Arnold, in North Carolina, where he was most likely raised. In around 1811 Anderson married Phoebe Duckworth Warhurst, the daughter of Timothy and Nancy (McDaniel) Warhurst, in Tennessee. Both Anderson and Phoebe were just 18 years old. They settled in Tennessee and started a family as follows:

In 1813 the family left Tennessee and settled in Alabama, then in about 1825, Anderson Arnold with his family left Huntsville, Alabama, on horseback and made settlement near the homestead of George W. Nichaels in Jasper County, Illinois. In the 1840 Census Anderson Arnold is listed as living in Clay County, Illinois (census page 124). He is also in Coles County, Illinois, where there are listings for an Anderson Arnold (census page 167) and also a William Arnold (census page 201). Anderson was Justice of the Peace in Grove Township, Jasper County, Illinois on Sept. 21, 1854, as well as being a farmer. He passed away in 1854 at around 60 years of age, while Phoebe lived on until 1860 when she died at around 66 years old. Their burial details are unknown.
