Biography
Richard was born in 1908. He was the son Ralph Fairchild]] and Adeline (Lewis) Fairchild. Obituary: "Technical Sergeant Fairchild, 37, lost his life in action on Luzon, on April 24, according to word received by his brother, Ralph G. Fairchild of the Birches, Roslyn Estates. yesterday.
Winner of the Bronze Star Medal for gallantry in battle of Bougainville, Sergeant Fairchild was graduated from Rutgers university, N.J. in the class of 1931.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. June Durk Fairchild of Cleveland, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph P. Fairchild of Roslyn and Great Barrington, Mass. a sister, Mrs. Harold F. Sprague of Cheshire, Conn and two brothers, Ralph G. Fairchild (Ione) and First Lieutenant W, Dean Fairchild, who is serving with the army in Belgium."
