Thelma Lillian Patterson was born on 6 May 1912 in Townsville, Elpingstone, Herbert, Queensland, Australia, her father, Sydney Walter Patterson (1879-1940) and her mother, Fanny Lillian Brown (1881-1940). She married Verner Lee Shaw on 16 Feb 1943 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. She died on 26 Apr 1993 in Buffalo, Leon, Texas and was buried in Liberty Cemetery, Centerville, Leon County, Texas.
