Biography

Charles was born in 1843, the son of Benjamin and Mary Olive (Burnham) Kenerson, in Bristol County, Massachusetts, where he was raised.

On May 22, 1866, Charles married Margaret Swain “Maggie” Hathaway, the daughter of Alexander H. and Phebe S. (Brightman) Hathaway, in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts. According to the birth locations of their children, Charles and Maggie initially settled in New London County, Connecticut, then relocated to Hampden County, Massachusetts, and finally, by 1881, they had moved back to New London. They had at least three children:

Charles Milton Kenerson (1881–1918)

Charles was an engineer for a railroad to support his family. Maggie died in 1902 at 54 years of age while Charles lived on and married a second time to either a widow or a divorcee, Sophia (Hansen) Hodges in around 1904. Sophia was from Denmark and the daughter of Christian and Mary (Hewett) Hansen. Charles passed away in 1915 at 71 years old, while Sophia lived on until 1930 when she passed at 66 years of age. Maggie, Charles and Sophia are all buried together in the Jordan Cemetery in Waterford, New London County, Connecticut.
