Biography

Corporal William Beall served in the United States Army in World War I
Service started: 1918
Unit(s): 11th Machine Gun Battalion, United States Army
Service ended: 11 Jan 1919

William Erby Beall was born on May 10, 1895, in New Wilson, a locality situated in Mississippi County, Arkansas, USA. He was the son of Daniel Hendricks Beall and Mary Della (Dawson) Beall. In both 1900 and 1910, William resided in Golden Lake Township, Mississippi County, Arkansas.

During World War I, William served in the Army as a corporal of the 42nd Company of the 11th Receiving Battalion. He embarked from St. Nazaire, France, on the ship Finland on April 20, 1919, and arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey, on April 30, 1919. He was then assigned to Convalescent Camp #10 and was discharged from service on January 11, 1919.

In 1920, William lived on Main Street in Golden Lake Township, Mississippi County, Arkansas, where he worked as a bookkeeper at a local store. He married Betty Nell Jones (nee Cox) on January 29, 1921, in Mississippi County, Arkansas.

By 1930, William and Betty were still residing on Main Street in Golden Lake Township. William had transitioned to work as a trucker by this time. In 1940, the couple had moved to Dyess Township, still within Mississippi County, Arkansas.

Tragically, William Erby Beall was found deceased in his hotel room at the Clark Hotel on South Main Street in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, on March 8, 1941. Physicians determined that he had likely passed away approximately ten hours prior due to a probable heart attack. He was discovered around 7 o'clock in the morning.
