Biography

Sidney William Kirby was born in about 1854. He was probably the son of Sydney Henry Joseph Kirby and his wife Jane, and was baptised on 1 March 1854 at St. John´s Wood All Saints, Westminster, England^[1].

In the 1861 England Census, Sidney W Kirby (aged 7 and a Scholar) was recorded living with his father Sidney Kirby (44, Clerk War Office Pall Mall), his mother Jane Kirby (33) and his siblings Jane Kirby (9), Mary Kirby (6), Walter Kirby (5), Kate Kirby (4), Chas Harolds Kirby (2), Richd Chas Kirby (1), and Maurice Angelo Kirby (5 months) at Woodbridge Road, Stoke Next Guildford, Guildford, Surrey. Also in the household were four servants^[2].

Sidney went on to become a planter in Ceylon.

He married Frances Louisa Byrde circa 1890 most likely in Ceylon. They had one son: Sidney Henry Kirby (who was killed at Gallipoli in the 1st World War).

In the 1891 England Census, Sidney W Kirby (aged 37, no occupation), his wife Frances Kirby (29) and their infant son Sidney Kirby were recorded as Lodgers in the household of George Coleman and Susannah Coleman (Lodging House Keeper) at 18, Woburn Place, St Pancras, London & Middlesex^[3].

His wife Frances passed away on 5 August 1896.

Sidney William Kirby passed away on 6 July 1898 and was buried with his late wife at St. Peter's Churchyard Goetre, Nant-y-derry, Monmouthshire, Wales^[4][5].

Administration of his Will was granted on 28 January 1913 at Glamorgan, Wales to his only son Sidney Henry Kirby, engineer^[6]. His effects were valued at £220 18s.
