Biography
John was born Leeds 1647.
Rev John Ingram was Rector of Chipstead Surrey. Educated at Trinity College Cambridge. Tutor there was Dr Thomas Gale, a family connection of his mother’s, Francis Thwaite of Studley near Ripon.
He entered Magdalen College, Cambridge, on 7 June 1665. Entry in Alumni Cantabrigienses: "INGRAM, JOHN. Adm. at Magdalene, June 7, 1665. Migrated to Trinity, May 4, 1666. Matric. 1666-7; B.A. 1669-70; M.A. 1673 Ord. deacon (Ely) June 18; priest, Dec. 24, 1671. R of Chipstead, Surrey, 1679-1718. Buried there Feb. 5, 1717-8. Father of James (1710)."[1]
He married Elizabeth Pigeon on 29 April 1675 at Christ Church, Bankside, Surrey. The marriage was reported in the Chipstead register: "John Ingram, Minister & Mrs Elizabeth Pigeon; married at Christ church parish at ye Bank side, Surry".[2]
Elizabeth died in 1714 and was buried on 19 November 1714 at Chipstead: "Mrs Elizabeth Ingram wife of John Ingram, Rector, died, 15th. Was wrapt in Woollen."[3]
John died on 1 February 1717/1718 and was buried on 5 February 1717/1718 at Chipstead.[4] Note, Ancestry has transcribed the date as 1716.
