Alexander Macrae was Chamberlain of Kintail under the third Earl of Seaforth. "His father procured for him a wadset in the lands of Inverinate, Dorisduan and Letterinimmer for the sum of six thousand marks, and he is mentioned in the Valuation Roll of the County of Ross in 1644, as possessed of lands in the parish of Kintail of the yearly value of £266 13s 4d Scots"[2]
Alexander Macrae married twice. His first wife was Margaret Mackenzie, daughter of the second laird of Redcastle with whom he had four children:[3]
Alexander's second wife was Mary Mackenzie with whom he had seven sons and at least two daughters:[3] Alexander, Donald, Christopher, Farquhar, Murdoch, Allan, Hugh, Isabell and Margaret.
Alexander Macrae died in 1711 and was buried in Clachan Duich Ancient Church and burial Ground of Kintail[4][5]
