John passed away after a long illness at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Sylvania Township, Lucas County, Ohio on 29 Jun 2011.
"The Very Reverend John Arthur McClure died peacefully on June 29, 2011 after a long illness at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born to the late Noel and Pauline (Fischer) McClure. Father McClure was preceded in death by his step mother, Lee (Clark) McClure and step brother, Kenneth McClure. He is survived by his sisters, Marie O'Kane (Dan) of Tipp City, Ohio and Donna Joy Ortyl (Jim) of Perrysburg, Ohio.
After graduating in 1948 from Central Catholic High School and attending the University of Detroit, Father served in the Navy for four years at the outbreak of the Korean War. Returning from service he entered the Seminary and was ordained a Priest of the Diocese of Toledo on May 26, 1962. He served the Church in eleven different parishes of the Diocese.
He earned both a Master Degree and a Licentiate in Canon Law at Saint Paul University, Ottawa, Ontario. He then served in the Tribunal of the Diocese for thirty one years finally serving as the Judicial Vicar.
At various times in his ministry, Father McClure served as the Chaplain to the Port of Toledo, Chaplain to Saint Anthony Villa, Chaplain to the third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Chaplain to the Catholic War Veterans, Chaplain to the American Legion, Chaplain to the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Chaplain to the Civil Air Patrol, Trustee to the Teamsters Local 20 Legal Defense Fund and Chaplain to Rosary Care Center where he resided for the last twenty-four years.
In 2000 Father McClure was awarded knighthood in the Ancient Religious and Military Order of Saint Catherine of Sinai. The Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated on the following schedule: The Reception of the Body and Vespers will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011 in Queen of Peace Chapel at the Sylvania Franciscan Motherhouse with visitation until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue in the Chapel on Saturday, July 2, 2011 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the celebration of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Leonard Blair. The Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial gifts can be made to the Priests' Retirement Fund of the Diocese of Toledo." [2]
