Mrs. Bertha Chapman, RD 1, Waymart, died Thursday, April 16, 1987 in Wayne County Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, following an illness. Her husband, Oliver [Francis], died in 1986. [They were married Sep. 13, 1918 in Carbondale, PA.]

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Simeon and Lillie Burnard Swingle, she had resided in the Waymart area since 1931. Mrs. Chapman was a member of the South Clinton Baptist Church and the Golden Years group of Waymart. She was the last living graduate of Waymart High School Class of 1918. Mrs. Chapman is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Francis (Florence) Lane, Totowa, NJ; a son Berton O., RD 1, Waymart; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Herbert E. Jenkins Funeral Home, 269 Belmont St., Waymart. The Rev. Daniel Peters, pastor of the South Clinton Baptist Church, and the Rev. Russell Edwards, pastor emeritus of the Waymart and South Clinton Baptist Churches, will officiate. Interment will be in South Canaan Bible Protestant Cemetery, South Canaan.
