Margherita Lo Bosco, aka Margherita Vosco, is the daughter of Vincenzo Nicolo' lo Bosco, 32, agricola, and Francesca Piazza, 35. She is born at via S. Nicolo' in Corleone, on 11 February 1850.
Her father, Vincenzo, dies on 15 June 1867.
Margherita, age 19, marries Carmelo Grizzaffi, a farmer, age 23, in Corleone on 28 March 1869 (in the civil record) and 5 April 1869 in the Church. It is the first marriage for either of them. Margherita's mother is still living.
Margherita and Carmelo have nine children together who are known from Church records: Maria (1870), Francesca (1872), Lucia (1875), two daughters named Leoluchina (1877 and 1884), Vincenza (1879), two sons named Vincenzo (c. 1882 and 1892), and Lorenzo (1888).
Seven of their children are born in Corleone, and at least one of them marries there. One of their children is born in Tampa, Florida, after the family immigrates.
Maria is born 26 April 1870 in her parents' home in via Santo Nicolo', Corleone. Her birth is reported by the midwife. She is baptized the next day, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Michaelangelus Rizzotto and Rosaria, brother and sister.
Francesca is born and baptized Franciscam on 3 November 1872 in Corleone. She is named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Joannes Scalisi and Antonin Cancemi, a married couple.
Lucia is born and baptized Luciam on 11 January 1875 in Corleone. Her godfather is Salvator Castelluccio.
The first daughter named Leoluchina is born 9 March 1877 and baptized the next day. Her godfather is Rosarius Savona, who is unmarried.
Vincenza is born 11 September 1879 and baptized the next day. Her godmother is Maria Antonina Morello, wife of Vincentii Tutino.
Leoluchina dies at three years of age on 23 November 1880.
The first son named Vincenzo is known only from the record of his death in infancy, on 27 August 1882. He is named after his paternal grandfather. It is possible that either Vincenzo's baptismal record has simply not been found, or that this death record is in error and is reporting the death of Vincenza (1879).
The second daughter named Leoluchina is born 14 December 1884 at the family home in Corleone.
Lorenzo is born and baptized 22 January 1888 in Corleone. His godparents are Leoluca di Palermo and Cajetana, his unmarried sister.
Maria marries Domenico Natoli on 11 September 1888. It is the first marriage for either of them. Carmelo and Margherita are still living in Corleone at this time.
The family immigrates at some time between September 1888 and June 1892. When their fifth child is born, they send the baptismal information back to the Mother Church in Corleone.
The second son named Vincenzo is born 22 June 1892 and baptized at the Chiese de S. Luigi in Tampa, Florida on 3 July 1892. His godparents are Vincenzo Nucci and Genovessa Nucci.
According to custom, the first born son should be named Vincenzo, and the second son, Vincenzo Nicolo', to honor each grandfather. Carmelo and Margherita have not evidently followed this convention, though it's very possible that not all of the records of their children's births have been found. See the Cascio Family Space for a short discussion on naming conventions.
