Biography

Pietro Grizzaffi is born around 1761 in Burgio, in neighboring Agrigento province. He is the son of Maestro Francesco Grizzaffi ("Grizaffi") and Giovanna di Miceli. Pietro's birth year is based on his reported age in the 1807 stato delle anime.

Maestro Pietro is a resident of Corleone when he marries Anna Maria Pisciotta there on 22 February 1778. His parents are both living at this time.

Pietro and Anna Maria have at least five children: Biagio Maria (1780), Francesco (1781), Antonino (1784), Antonina (1786), and Biagia (1789).

Biagio Maria is born and baptized 14 June 1780. This record claims, incorrectly, that his parents married in Terra Burgis. His godparents are Rosario Giantone and Sebastiana, wife of Giovanni Bartolotta.[1]

Francesco Maria is born 2 September 1781 and baptized the next day, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Giuseppe Favaloro and Nunzia Ferraro.[2]

Antonino is born and baptized 9 August 1784, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Emmanuele Russo and Angela, wife of Matteo Governali.[3]

Antonina Maria is born and baptized 17 January 1787. Her godparents are Maestro Giovanni and Rosa Musca, a married couple.[4]

Antonia dies 26 August 1787.[5] She is seven months old.

Biagia is born and baptized 2 October 1789. Her godparents are Don Pasquale Sorrentino and Francesca Pisciotta, who are unmarried.[6]

In 1807 Pietro, 46 (b. 1761), lives with his wife Anna Maria, 50 (b. 1757), and children Antonino, 22 (b. 1785), and Biagia, 17 (b. 1790), in a roadhouse (cantoniera) in the alley (vanella) behind Grazzia.

Biagia marries Francesco Manicchia on 4 February 1810.

Biagia dies at age 27 (b. 1789) on 23 October 1816, survived by her husband. Pietro and Anna Maria also survive their daughter.
