Robert, born in 1886, was the son of Robert Laidlaw and Jessie Cameron. [1]
In 1913 he married Julia Cayley in Toronto, Ontario. [2]
Robert was a successful businessman who joined his father's company, the R Laidlaw Lumber Company Ltd, and worked in other Canadian corporations. He was a philanthropist, making major contributions to health, educational and cultural entities, including the University of Toronto, the Canadian National Ballet School and the National Ballet of Canada. In 1949 he established a charitable foundation, the Laidlaw Foundation. He passed away in 1976. [3] [4].
"Mr Laidlaw and his two sons, Nicholas and Roderick, gave more than 11 million dollars to the foundation out of a family fortune made from the R Laidlaw Lumber Company."[5].
