Biography

Believe Caroline was born in Carver County, Minnesota though no birth records have been found. She was the daughter of Meinrad Fessler and Frances Tschümperlin. Her parents immigrated from Switzerland to Carver County, Minnesota, USA in 1861. Caroline was born the following year.

When her father was drafted into the Union Army in May, 1864 they were living in Laketown Township, Carver, MN. In the 1865 census, they were on their farm in Laketown, Before 1870 they moved to Excelsior, Hennepin, MN. They moved to Oregon about 1874. (They don't appear in the 1875 MN State census.) In 1880 they lived in Abiqua Precinct, Marion, Oregon.

Caroline married Joseph Scharbach about 1882, presumably in Oregon. Their first 4 children were born in Oregon from 1882 though '87, 1 was born in Washington in 1890, and the rest in Idaho from 1892 onward.

1900 they had 9 children and lived in Thorn Creek Precinct, Latah, Idaho. By 1910 she'd had 11 children, though only 10 survived. They were still living in Thorn Creek, ID. In 1920 they were living on 2nd St. in Clarkston, Asotin, Washington.

She passed away April 15, 1934 in Clarkston, Washington and is buried in Saint Gall Cemetery, Colton, Washington.^[1]
