Nathaniel was born in 1792. He was the son of Nathaniel Abbott and Phebe Cummings. His family moved to Nelson, New Hampshire, where he met and married Hepzibah Griffin, daughter of Samuel Griffin and Sophia (Foster) Griffin, there in Nelson, on 7 August 1817.[1]
He and Hepzibah came as pioneers to the settlement of Webster, New York, on the banks of Lake Ontario.[2] Along with other families from New Hampshire such as Simeon Goodenough, John Atwood, Asa G. and David Fell, Samuel Robb, and William McFarline, Sr., he occupied a lot in the north and eastern part of the town.[3]
The Presbyterian Church of Webster was organized as a Congregational society as early as 1825, and at the time consisted of eight members, viz., Nathaniel Abbott, John Atwood, Benjamin Ford, Stephen Sherman, and their wives. The first meetings were held under the direction of Rev. Mr. Carpenter, in barns, private residences, and at the school-house.[3]
Nathaniel married second Chloe Holly.
He passed away in 1875.
