Biography

Beatrice Alice Akers was born in 1881 in Aldershot, Hampshire, England to Thomas Akers and Mary Anne (Duncan) Akers. Her birth was registered in Farnham, Surrey [the registration district for Aldershot] in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Duncan.[1]

In 1891 Beatrice A Akers (age 10, Scholar) lived at Perry Street in Chatham Town, Kent with her father Thomas (55), mother Maryanne (43), and five siblings: Kate (19, Tailoress), Thomas A (17, General Labourer), Maud (14, Scholar), Mable C F (6, Scholar), and Ethel R (0).[2]

In 1901 Beatrice Akers (age 19, Tailoress) lived in Rochester St Margaret, Kent with her father Thomas (65, Pensioner Army Service Corp), mother Mary A (52), two sisters: Mabel C F (16) and Ethel R (10), as well as her grandfather Alfred Duncan (81).[3]

In 1911 Beatrice Alice Akers (age 29, Tailoress) lived in Chatham Town with her widowed mother Mary Ann (64) and two sisters: Mabel Clara Florence (26, Elem School Teacher for Rochester Education Com) and Ethel Ruth (20, Elem School Teacher for Rochester Education Com).[4]

Beatrice emigrated to Australia in 1914, with her mother and two sisters (her married sister Maud Newbold had already gone to Australia with her family at least a year earlier): Miss B Akers (32), with her mother Mrs M (65) and sisters Miss M (29) and Miss E (24), sailed aboard the ship Borda from London in 1914, their destination was Melbourne.[5]

Beatrice Alice Akers passed away in 1981 in Kew, Victoria - she was 99 years old, her mother was Mary Ann DUNCAN and her father was Thomas Wood AKERS.[6]
