Jonas was born in 1843 at Redditch, Redditch Borough, Worcestershire, England. He was the son of Frederick Alcock and Mary Ann Green.

Jonas married Harriett Tivey in in 1867 Moles Station near Cooma, New South Wales, Australia. They had 8 (eight), children Emily Rose, Henry Caleb, Louisa Ann, Joseph Nehemiah, Clara Phoebe, Mabel Amelia, Edwin Lawrence, and Harold Mortimer.

He married Emmaline Jane nee Chislett on 13 Jan 1886 in Waterloo, NSW. He married Elizabeth "Dot" nee Waugh on 24 Jun 1912 in Burwood, NSW

Jonas passed away in 1932 at Bemboka, registered as Bega, New South Wales, Australia. ^[1]
