Research notes
There is a question as to who Mary's mother was. She lists Jennie Alexander as her mother on the Dawes Applications for Enrollment card 1308.[7] Her brother, Arthur James Alexander also lists Jennie Alexander as his mother on the Dawes Applications for Enrollment card 566.[8] On the Find a Grave Memorial ID: 57173632 for Mary Jennie Moore nee Colbert states that that "Jennie" Colbert was not one of the wives of William Vinson Alexander. It states " that In the 1903 court case of "W. V. Alexander vs the Chickasaw Nation", Alexander clearly outlined his wives....several times. He stated that his "first wife" was Rebecca Colbert, that they married on April 15, 1865 in Kiamichi County, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory and that she had died before 1874. He then stated his "second wife" was Martha E. Davis who he married on Feb. 24, 1874 in Skullyville Co., Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. It goes on to say Family tradition says the two Alexander children went to live with their grandmother Colbert after their mother died. And they are found on the 1885 Chickasaw census in the household of Caroline Colbert who was Rebecca's mother. Also in the home is another daughter of Caroline, Jennie (Colbert) Moore and her own family, husband Joe Moore, son James Moore and daughter Nancy Moore. It was a common practice to call the sisters of one's mother "Mother". There was no source listed for this information on Find a Grave.
