Biography

William Crichton Alexander, born on March 13, 1881, in London, England, was the son of James Alexander and Annie (Crichton) Alexander. In the early years of the 20th century, specifically in 1900, he resided on Bass Avenue in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. By 1910, he had moved to Jefferson Avenue in Memphis, where he worked as a merchant in the cotton industry, showcasing his involvement in the thriving economic sector of the time.

On September 12, 1917, William entered into matrimony with Ella Temple Fox in Saratoga County, New York, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life. In 1920, the couple lived on West 11th Street in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas. During this period, William owned his own business and worked as a cotton buyer, underlining his continued connection to the cotton industry. Additionally, he had become a naturalized citizen by this time.

An interesting chapter in William's life unfolded in 1929 when he embarked on a journey to South America, specifically Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. His return to the United States on January 20, 1929, was documented as he arrived on the ship Abangarez at the port of New Orleans, Louisiana, providing a glimpse into his international travels and experiences.
