He was the son of James Allison and Rebecca Howard.
James Allison lived in Donegal Township, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1762, James’ father, James Allison, died and willed 300 acres of land to his son James, and the remaining land was to be sold by his executors. However, all of the land (564 and ¾ acres) remained in his son, James’s possession, until his son’s death in 1776. This land was sold to John Mease, merchant of Philadelphia, on December 22, 1777. James Allison died in 1776. His will was written on March 12, 1776, and probated on April 24, 1776. The executors were John Mays and John Jamison, Jr. The witnesses were John Leech and two others. He bequeathed 500 pounds to his sister, Sarah Allison; 400 pounds to his nephew, James Defrance; 400 pounds to his nephew, John Defrance; and 100 pounds to his niece, Jane Killwell.
