Biography

Herbert was born in Bunny Nottinghamshire on 9 October 1894. He is the son of Frederick Bampkin Alton and Rosehanna Elizabeth Davies.

In 1911 at age 16, Herbert was residing with his father and 5 siblings in Bunny, and he was working as a farm labourer.

In 1915, Herbert enlisted into the British army (during World War I). The nature and duration of his service is unclear.

In June 1921 in Wantage Berkshire, Herbert married Violet Eleanor Arding, and they would have 2 children together, one daughter and one son.

In 1939, Herbert and Violet were living at 36 Ebenezer Street Heanor Derbyshire (near Nottingham), and Herbert was working as a crane slinger at Stanton Ironworks.

Herbert passed away in Nottinghamshire on 11 January 1968 at age 73. He was cremated on 15 Jan 1968. Wife Violet survived until 1984.
