Helen was born in 1838, the daughter of John Anderson. She came to NZ with her family in 1858. She married Henry France in 1858 [1] She did not remarry after he passed away in 1873.
France, Mrs Helen (nee Anderson), born North Scotland 1837 ; arrived with parents, late John Anderson and wife, in Bernicia ; married Mr Henry France 1858, then resided Oamaru. Her daughter, now Mrs Belling, was first European child born in Oamaru.[2]
She passed away in 1919 age 81 [3] Mrs Henry France, who died in Wellington on the 7th inst.. at the age of 81, came to Otago by the ship Bernicia in 1848. She was a sifter of Mr John Anderson, who was well known in the Wyndham district, in the early days. For some year's her home was at Blueskin, but after she married Mr France she removed to Oamaru and resided there for many years. She leaves a family of five to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother. Her husband. Mr Henry France, was a member of the Provincial Council in the early days. [4]
