Biography

John E. Andrus was born 20 November 1847 near Canton, Bradford, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Darwin Andrus and Elizabeth Andrus. [1]

In 1850, John was living with his parents and siblings in Canton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.[2]

John's mother died when he was five years old, dying in 1852 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States.[3][1]

" Portrait and Biographical Album of Otoe and Cass Counties, Nebraska" shares the following timeline for John:

He was then placed with his sister, Hulda L. Wilhelm to live on her farm until he was nine years old [1856].[1] He lived with Aaron Barns [may have spelled Barnes - Carrie] until he was 12. He then made his home with an uncle until he was 17. He then began his life working for others, chopping wood and going to school.[1]

The dates appear to deviate some from the timeline given in his biography.

In 1870, at the age of 22, John is living in the Township of Pilot, Iowa, Iowa with his sister, Huldah L. Wilhelm and her husband, Samuel S. Wilhelm.[4]
