Thomas Edward Anson, 4th Earl of Lichfield was born on 9 December 1883. He was the son of Thomas Francis Anson, 3rd Earl of Lichfield and Lady Mildred Coke. He married, firstly, Evelyn Maud Keppel, daughter of Lt.-Col. Edward George Keppel and Mary Cecilia Georgiana King, on 11 July 1911. He married, secondly, Violet Margaret Dawson-Greene, daughter of Colonel Henry Dawson Dawson-Greene, on 23 February 1949. He died on 14 September 1960 at age 76.
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. He was Aide-de-Camp to the Acting Master of the Horse to the Lord-Lieutenant of ireland between 1906 and 1910. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 5th City of London Rifles. He fought in the First World War. He succeeded to the title of 5th Viscount Anson, of Shugborough and Orgrave, co. Stafford [U.K., 1806] on 29 July 1918. He gained the title of 4th Earl of Lichfield, co. Stafford [U.K., 1831] on 29 July 1918. He succeeded to the title of 5th Baron Soberton, of Soberton, co. Southampton [U.K., 1806] on 29 July 1918. He held the office of Lord High Steward of Stafford between 1933 and 1960. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Staffordshire. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Staffordshire.
