The natal family of Burris Applegate has not been found n1.
Burris served in Company K of the 2nd New Jersey Calvary Volunteers during the Civil War.

On 1863 August 24th Burris enlisted for three years and four days later he mustered in as private in Company K, 2nd NJ Calvary at Camp Parker near Trenton, New Jersey. He was discharged 1865 May 3rd (from a hospital?) at Memphis, Tennessee. On 1865 June 28th he mustered out at Vicksburg, Mississippi [1] [2].

About 1865 Burris married Elizabeth N. Their children are Anna L (Ware) [3], Ella, John D [4], Linwood Powell [5], and Emma M (Gandy) [6] Sarah A (Stretch).
